Is Real Estate Finally Growing Up on Flexible Work, or Just Talking About It?

Flexibility has been part of the conversation in Real Estate for a few years now. The question is whether that conversation has actually changed anything.

Plenty of businesses will say they offer flexibility, but say it without ever defining it. One or two days working from home has become normal to ask for across Property Management, Administration and Executive Assistant roles, and Sales has always carried more flexibility than most. But being told flexibility will be considered is very different from being told what is actually on offer, and too many businesses are still relying on the first version because it costs them nothing to say.

Genuine flexibility looks like a business that can tell a candidate exactly what is available before an offer is signed, not after. It looks like adjusted hours that are actually built into rosters, not just tolerated when asked for. It looks like consistency, the same flexibility offered to the person who has been there five years as the person just walking in the door.

The businesses still treating flexibility as a nice thing to mention in an interview, rather than a genuine part of how they operate, are the ones who will keep losing candidates to businesses that got there first.

So has your business actually built flexibility into how it works, or is it still just something you say out loud when asked?
