The New AI Resume: When Polished Stops Being Personal

Every hiring manager has noticed it by now. The resumes coming through look sharper, the language is tighter, and every achievement is framed with the kind of confidence most people do not use to describe themselves. AI has changed the resume, and in a lot of ways, it has changed it for the better. But it has also created a problem that Real Estate businesses are not talking about enough.

A polished resume is not the same as an honest one.

When every applicant sounds equally confident, equally accomplished and equally aligned to the role, the resume stops telling you anything useful. You are no longer reading about the person, you are reading a version of them that has been smoothed over by a tool that does not know them, has never worked with them, and cannot speak to how they actually show up in a role.

For jobseekers, the temptation is understandable. A polished resume feels safer, and in a competitive market, it can feel necessary just to get noticed. But there is a real risk in letting AI write the story instead of telling it yourself. If the resume oversells what you bring to a Property Management, Sales, Administration or Support role, you are the one who has to live up to it from day one.

For employers, the shift means the resume can no longer do the heavy lifting on its own. The interview matters more than it ever has, because that is where the real person shows up, not the AI generated version of them. Questions need to go deeper than what is written on the page, and hiring decisions need to be based on the conversation, not just the presentation.

None of this means AI does not have a place in the process. It does. But a resume should still sound like the person behind it, not like every other resume landing in the same inbox.

Whether you are writing one or reading one, ask yourself, is this the real person, or is this just what the tool produced?
